Certification of Spring Mattresses in Brazil is mandatory and regulated by Inmetro.

The Spring Mattresses are certified by product family and the certification model can be 2, 5 or 1b.

Product family? What does it mean?

Set of models, identified by one or more brands, produced in the same factory and which have the same classification as to structure and spring, according to the Descriptive Memorial, as follows:

a) structure:
if simple spring mattress;
if combined spring mattress;
if spring mattress conjugated;
if articulated spring mattress;
if auxiliary spring mattress.

b) Spring: number and types of buckles; spring type of structural spring; spring type of comfort spring (if any).

And what are the certification models?

Model 2 (exclusive for Micro and Small Companies): initial assessment consisting of tests on samples taken from the manufacturer and evaluation of the Customer Service Systematics, followed by periodic maintenance evaluation by collecting product samples on the store.

Model 5: includes the evaluation and approval of the Quality Management System and the Customer Service Systematic of the supplier through audits and tests on samples that can be collected both at the factory and in the store.

Model 1b: batch certification, which is evaluated through product tests and evaluation of the Customer Service System. This modality is more common for imported products.
